About the Product

Bently Nevada 330192-00-08-05-00 Ultra Short 3300 XL ETR Probe

  • Manufacturer & Model: Bently Nevada 330192-00-08-05-00 ETR probe for 3300 XL series.
  • Product Type: 8 mm Eddy Current Transducer with stainless steel armor.
  • Thread: 3/8-24 UNF.
  • Made in: U.S.A.

The Shortest 3300 XL Probe Available

  • Case length: Only 0.8 inches (20.3 mm).
  • Cable length: 0.5 meter (1.6 feet).
  • Unthreaded section: Zero - threads start immediately.
  • Total protrusion: Less than 1 inch from mounting surface.
  • Industry comparison: Standard probes start at 2.8 inches.
  • Unique position: No shorter 8mm armored probe exists in 3300 XL line.

Designed for Impossible Spaces

  • Thin casings: Works on walls as thin as 0.2 inches (5mm).
  • Crowded machinery: Fits between gears, bearings, or housings.
  • Retrofit nightmare: Replaces probes in original tight designs.
  • Test stands: Temporary mounting on small rotating rigs.
  • Portable kits: Short probe stores easily in carrying case.
  • OEM integration: Built into compact new equipment designs.

Maximum Wall Thickness Calculator

  • Case length: 0.8 inches total.
  • Minimum thread engagement: 0.5 inches required.
  • Gap needed: 0.06 inches (1.5mm) to shaft.
  • Remaining for wall: 0.8 - 0.5 - 0.06 = 0.24 inches.
  • Safe maximum wall: 0.2 inches (5mm).
  • Warning: Do not use on walls thicker than 0.2 inches.

What 0.8 Inch Case Looks Like

  • Visual: Slightly longer than a typical thimble.
  • Threads: 3/8-24 UNF along entire 0.8 inches.
  • Tip to shoulder: Only 20mm distance.
  • Wrench flats: 7/8 inch hex at shoulder.
  • Lock nut: Standard nut extends past case when installed.
  • Connector end: Same as all 3300 XL probes.

Zero Unthreaded Section Reality

  • Why zero unthreaded: No room for smooth section on 0.8in case.
  • Threads to tip: Last thread ends at probe tip face.
  • Sealing method: Thread sealant mandatory (PTFE tape or pipe dope).
  • No crush washer: Impossible due to no smooth shoulder area.
  • Rule verification: 0.8in case - 0in unthreaded = 0.8in difference.
  • Requirement: Difference must be at least 0.8in. Exactly meets minimum.

Electrical Data

  • RPROBE at 0.5m: 7.45 ± 0.50 Ω.
  • Same as 2.8in case 0.5m: Identical electrical performance.
  • Shortest cable: Minimal signal loss over 0.5m.
  • Lowest possible resistance: Only 0.5m of conductor.
  • Noise immunity: Best among all cable lengths.
  • Extension ready: Add cables to reach desired total length.

Installation Challenge

  • Wrench access: Very little space for 7/8 inch wrench.
  • Finger tight first: Thread into port by hand.
  • Final tighten: 1/4 turn with thin profile wrench.
  • Gap setting difficulty: Hard to see tip due to short length.
  • Method: Use depth micrometer or gap tool.
  • Lock nut: May overhang past case - normal for this probe.

Armor on Ultra Short Cable

  • Armor type: AISI 302 stainless steel braid.
  • Length: Full 0.5 meter coverage.
  • Flexibility: Very flexible due to short length.
  • Bend radius: 40mm minimum (tightest of all lengths).
  • Conduit: 1/2 inch conduit sufficient.
  • Weight: Lightest armored probe Bently makes.

Pressure Seal Facts

  • Same Viton O-ring: No difference from longer probes.
  • Ultra short case: Seal located near tip as usual.
  • No factory test: Standard untested seal.
  • Low pressure OK: Fine for most applications under 300 psi.
  • High pressure: Request custom pressure test service.
  • Cold warning: Below -34°C, seal may fail.

Temperature Limits

  • Continuous operating: -52°C to +177°C.
  • Short term tip: Up to +218°C.
  • Cable limit: +260°C for extended version.
  • Seal cold limit: -34°C before potential failure.
  • Same as all probes: No temperature disadvantage from short case.
  • Heat dissipation: Short case may run slightly cooler.

Temperature Class Reference

  • Gas T1: 232°C surface, -55 to +232°C ambient.
  • Gas T2: 177°C surface, -55 to +177°C ambient.
  • Gas T3: 120°C surface, -55 to +120°C ambient.
  • Gas T4: 80°C surface, -55 to +80°C ambient.
  • Gas T5: 40°C surface, -55 to +40°C ambient.
  • Dust class: Surface temperature depends on ambient.

Compatibility

  • Proximitor: 3300 XL 8mm (330180-90-00) only.
  • Extension cables: 3300 XL series only.
  • Total length calculation: 0.5m probe + extension = system total.
  • Example: 0.5m probe + 4.5m extension = 5.0m system.
  • Connector: Standard 3300 XL coaxial.
  • Target: AISI 4140 steel calibration.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Q: What is the absolute minimum wall thickness for this probe?
A: The probe works on walls as thin as 0.1 inches (2.5mm) if the port has full threads. However, the lock nut needs about 0.2 inches of thread to grip. For walls under 0.2 inches, use a backing nut on the inside of the casing.
  • Q: Why does this probe exactly meet the 0.8 inch unthreaded rule instead of exceeding it?
A: The rule requires unthreaded length to be at least 0.8 inches less than case length. With 0.8 inch case and zero unthreaded, the difference is exactly 0.8 inches. Bently Nevada allows this as the minimum acceptable configuration. Do not use any shorter case.
  • Q: Can I use this probe on a standard thickness bearing housing?
A: No. Standard bearing housings are 1.5 to 2.5 inches thick. This 0.8 inch probe cannot reach through those walls. Use this probe only on very thin casings or surface mount adapter plates.
  • Q: How do I set the gap when the tip is hard to see?
A: Use a depth gauge. Measure from mounting surface to shaft. Subtract probe case length (0.8in). The difference is your gap. Adjust until gap reads 0.06 inches (1.5mm). Alternatively, use a dial indicator on the probe tip.
  • Q: Is this probe weaker or less reliable due to short case?
A: No. The internal electronics and sensing coil are identical to longer 3300 XL probes. Only the stainless steel case is shorter. Reliability, accuracy, and temperature rating match standard probes. The short case actually improves rigidity.
